Online Counseling Therapy
Technological progress has opened up a new approach to psychotherapy, which is online counselling. I use secure video-conferencing, as it is a far more realistic connection than phone, email, or chat. This powerful new tool saves you time and money, increases your confidentiality, and is more environmentally friendly than driving to an office. Using the software is easy, and we have a video below that gives you clear instructions on setting it up and using it in our sessions together.
What you need
You essentially need a computer, high-speed internet connection, a webcam (Logitech 9000 or similar one). The requirements for your equipment are:
- Windows 2000 or higher, MAC OSX or Linux with 1.2GHz (or faster) processor
- 256 MB of RAM
- 240kpbs (or faster) Internet connectivity
Internet browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Safari, etc.) with Flash Player 7 plug-in (98% of computers have this already)
How secure is it?
The selection of software is important. Many video-conferencing services (Skype) are not confidential, and may risk your privacy. I use Mega-Meeting, which has the same level of encryption as online banking. It utilizes 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption at the browser level, securing the communication that takes place within the Web/Video Conference. This technology, combined with 100% browser based technology allows close to 100% of all computers to be able to participate in the Web/Video Conference, without clients having to worry about the safety or security of their video, audio and text chat transmission.
Scheduling a session
You can call The Core Center for Health in Kelowna at 250-862-2673, or email the receptionist at email@example.com as to what days and times you are available. The receptionist will confirm your appointment. Please be sure to leave your phone number with the receptionist, so that I can call you for your session.
Getting set up
A video available here has instructions that you can watch, to guide you through starting the session.
We will start the session 5 minutes before the scheduled hour, to ensure that the equipment is working properly for you.
I love working with clients! It is so rewarding to see clients step out of depression, or restore their fractured relationships. Watching confidence and strength build in a person who had so little before, is really gratifying.
