Information For Pastors

One concern that clergy have about referring their parishoners to mental health professionals is whether psychotherapy will undermine the person's religious beliefs. This concern has been well-founded, as historically, mental health professionals have been more secular than the general society. In fact, some of the major figures in the field of psychotherapy have been openly hostile to religious belief.

I specialize in working with clients with a Christian belief, and have been in a number of faith communities over the years. I am comfortable working with clients with a wide variety of religious beliefs, from those with none, to those with a strong faith. I see my role as helping the client work on their goals, which may include spiritual growth. I do not see it as my role to impose my beliefs, any more than it is.
